Enamoured by the stars above us, we have long sought to find a connection with them. The idea that our fates are somehow linked to the constellations that share our universe has been held since time immemorial.

For centuries, people have turned to astrology to forecast earthly events by interpreting the positions of the sun, stars and planets. Once considered a science, astrology’s scientific basis was later considered untenable, and the practice is now distinct from its close relative, astronomy.

Among many horoscopes, the tropical Zodiac comprising Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces is well known. The zodiac is the belt, spanning about 8 degrees on either side of the ecliptic—the sun’s path—divided by these twelve signs and across which the planets and stars pass.

The astral positions along the zodiac fed the imagination and took on the outlines and names of familiar figures, from the ram of Aries to the fish of Pisces. While the earth’s precession means the original dates assigned to the zodiac signs are no longer accurate, astrology still has its faithful followers for leisure and knowledge.
