Singapore will soon see the launch of the new 6-digit postal code.

In 1950, the two-digit postal code system was introduced to facilitate the sorting and delivery of postal items. The two-digit code was replaced in 1979 by a four-digit system.

To meet increased mail volumes and maintain the current standard of next day delivery of mail, the 6-digit code will be launched to enable the automatic sorting of mail right down to the order that it is to be delivered. With that, Singapore Post will be set to meet the projected mail volume increase for at least the next twenty years.
