EDB 50th Anniversary

Issue date 01 Aug 2011

Overview

The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) was established in 1961 to spearhead Singapore's industrialisation drive. 50 years have passed since Singapore took its first steps in economic development and investment promotion.

From making mosquito coils and hair wigs in the 1960s, to the high-tech manufacturing and innovation driven activities of today, the Singapore economy has been on a steady path of progress, capability building and transformation. This has been made possible by the combined efforts of the government, workers and companies who had the confidence to invest in Singapore.

EDB's approach to creating strong partnerships, its pioneering spirit to take bold steps into uncharted waters, as well as its can-do approach have underpinned the development of new industries, created exciting jobs and built a diversified, globally competitive economy.

The release of EDB's 50th Anniversary commemorative stamp collection celebrates how far Singapore has come from its modest beginnings. It also heralds an exciting tomorrow where Singapore becomes the home in Asia for global business, innovation and talent - and remains, as always, future-ready.
