The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Five other countries – Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam later joined in to make up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN. Over the years, the 10 ASEAN member countries have built strong and close relationships. ASEAN has since matured into a community focused on economic integration and growth, and consensus-building. This is the “ASEAN Way” and it has resulted in unprecedented growth and stability.

This year, ASEAN will be celebrating its 50th anniversary of formation. To commemorate and mark this milestone, the 50th anniversary of ASEAN stamp issue is released.
