Overview
The United Nations General Assembly decided to declare 1986 as the international Year of Peace in a resolution adopted on 16 November 1982. Among other things, the resolution recailed the Preamble to the United Nations Charter, which proclaims that people of the United Nations are determined to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war and for this end to practise tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and to unite their strength to maintan international peace and security.
