Did you know that the history of Singapore Police Force could be traced back to 1819 when Singapore was founded? Starting with a very small unit, it comprised of one sergeant, 8 constables, a jailer and a Malay writer and a total monthly cost of three hundred dollars. It did not even have an officer-in-charge until Sir Francis James Bernard, son-in-law of Major William Farquhar, was appointed Chief Police Officer later in 1819!

Today, the Singapore Police Force is a far cry from its beginning as it has evolved into a Force that is nimble, progressive, feared by criminals but reassuring to citizens as it keeps the streets safe and free from crime.

In this set of stamps, the four main areas of policing, namely Community Policing, Traffic Policing, Maritime Policing and International Peacekeeping are illustrated with an officer representing each division standing proud on its foreground and their respective area of activity at its back. Putting a special stamp on this issue on the first day cover datestamp, the crest of Singapore Police Force. This serves as a salute to the officers of the Singapore Police Force in recognition to their dedication and their service to the Nation.
