1990 marks the 150th year of the first postage stamp ever printed. This issue is a tribute to man's ingenious invention of this small gum-backed paper that has played no small part in transforming the world into what it is today.

This issue will appeal to new and seasoned collectors alike. For a start, the attractive stamps and miniature sheet are unique stamp-on-stamp designs. Only three previous stamp issues with such designs have ever been produced by us. They were: 'London 1980' International Stamp Exhibition, Bangkok International Stamp Exhibition 1983 and 25 Years of Nation-Building 1984. Collectors will gain invaluable information through this stamp issue as the stamps depicted on the designs are significant records of postage stamps in Singapore and Great Britain, birthplace of the first printed stamp.

A set of stamps from the 150th Anniversary of Founding of Singapore stamp issue released in 1969 forming a composite record of Singapore's history since its founding in 1819 is featured on the 50 cent stamp. The 75 cent stamp shows a cover with one of the first bi-sect Indian stamps issued in Singapore. This cover is one of the less than 40 known existing covers with one of the first bi-sect stamps. The only existing cover depicting the full set of the first stamps used in Singapore in 1854 is featured on the $1 stamp. To complete this collection, the two classic philatelic masterpieces, the Penny Black and Twopence Blue, grace the $2 stamp.
