Guiding is one of the well established youth movements of the world. The Girl Guide Movement was started 75 years ago, in 1910, when a small group of girls in England persuaded Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Scout Movement, that they be allowed to join in the game of scouting. The Girl Guide Movement then began, built upon the solid principles which had been laid down for scouting.

Today, there are just over 7/2 million girl guides from all over 100 countries, in this big Family where there are no boundaries of race, culture, class and religion. All the world over, girl guides are bound by their Promise and Law, which lay down strict spiritual and ethical codes as principles of conduct and duty to God, country, others and self.

The Girl Guide programme in Singapore, builds upon the basic principles for the development of character, skills, community service and health. Through its programme of weekly indoor and outdoor activities, tests and proficiency badges, it trains girls between the ages 72 and 21 to grow up as thinking and useful members of the community, to care, to share and to serve whenever and wherever needed.
