Nestled in the shores of the easternmost tip of Pulau Ubin, Chek Jawa is a unique area where six major habitats -- coastal hill forest, mangroves, rocky shore, sandflats, coral rubble and seagrass lagoon -- come together to bring about an extraordinary mix of flora and fauna on both land and sea.

As an intricately linked ecosystem in which organisms depend on one another for survival, Chek Jawa serves as a spectacular outdoor living classroom for all, as well as a valuable site for research and conservation.

Special not just for its rich biodiversity and ecological importance, Chek Jawa has left an indelible impression on many Singaporeans whose passion and enthusiasm helped ensure that many more will continue to be enthralled by the natural beauty of this little piece of paradise.

This year's Care-for-Nature stamp series features artist Eng Siak Loy's colourful renditions of the Seashore Nutmeg (Knema globularia), Oriental Pied Hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris), Knobbly Sea Star (Protoreaster nodosus) and Common Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda). The Chek Jawa Stamp Series, to be released on 20 Oct 2004, will allow members of the public to pledge their support for the conservation of Singapore's natural heritage.
