Singapore is a bustling metropolis, nestled in a lush mantle of tropical greenery. The city is so well landscaped with greenery that it is also known as the Garden City. With this environment, naturally and as a result, people like to decorate their homes and houses with plants and flowers. Such has brought many benefits beyond the beauty of the plants and flowers itself and the screening and softening effect they have on the appearance of the blocks of rectangular high-rise buildings in which most Singaporeans live in.

In 2007, the new series of Definitives stamps featured a range of Flora and Fauna of which the Frangipani and Torch Ginger were beautifully illustrated and featured. To make the Definitives series more varied, this year another two flowering plants are added to the collection. The two flowering plants - the Blue Pea Vine and the Pigeon Orchid featured in this 2009 Definitives stamp set, are commonly found on the island and are part of the greenery that enhance our city in a garden setting.
