History reminds us of our past. It helps to preserve the memory of important events, institutions and people. People who came before us and who made their mark. In the process of preserving the memory of our pioneers, we are not only enriched, we are rooted.

This set of stamps pays tribute to the four pioneers of Singapore from different ethnic groups who helped to lay the foundations of the nation and had contributed to the progress and well-being of early Singapore. The stamps feature Tan Tock Seng (1798 - 1850), Eunos bin Abdullah (1876 - 1941), P Govindasamy Pillai (1887 - 1980) and Edwin John Tessensohn (1857 - 1926).

The stamps are printed in photogravure to enhance the clarity of their portraits.

As this is the first stamp issue commemorating Singapore's pioneers, a specially produced souvenir will be enclosed with every order of the stamps and products for this issue.
