Overview
The world will participate in the 27th Olympic Games at Sydney, Australia from 15 Sep to 1 Oct 2000. The last time the Olympics came to Australia was in 1956.
This set of four stamps depicts the Olympic sports that are played in Singapore, namely, Swimming and High Jump, Badminton and Discus throw, Football, and Athletics and Table-tennis and Gymnastics.
The stamps incorporate the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games emblem, featuring the "Millennium Athlete" which symbolises the speed and agility of an athlete moving towards the new Millennium. The colours reflect the Sydney harbour, the sun and earth and the boomerangs on the body that forms the body of the athlete signify Australia's culture. It seeks to capture the inspirational qualities of Olympism.
