A set of stamps to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the International Civil Aviation Organisation or ICAO for short, will be released on 5 Oct 94.

Not many among us are familiar with the name ICAO, but Singapore has indeed benefitted much from her membership in this organisation. ICAO has set standards and regulations on air passenger safety, made technological advances in air travel and raised issues on air conveyance, all of which have ensured an orderly growth in international civil aviation and safety for air passengers.

Singapore has come a long way in the area of civil aviation which is one of the nation's main assets today. It is therefore appropriate to celebrate the 50th anniversary of an organisation which has helped in no small way to its success. And what better way than with a stamp issue.

Designer, Nicodemus Loh, produces a set of designs that is contemporary in style and reflects beautifully the nature of the aviation industry - progressive, high-tech and futuristic. This same artist designed the popular set of stamps on Greetings reflecting the happy faces of children.

The four stamps, in denominations of 20¢, 35¢, 75¢ and $2 depict the globe with ICAO's 50th anniversary logo, a future double decker plane, the future hypersonic speed aircraft and the sophisticated future air navigation system.

So, look out for this set of stamps and take a ride into the future.
