This commemorative stamp issue celebrates the multinational inscription of Kebaya: Knowledge, Skills, Traditions and Practices on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. The kebaya, an upper garment worn by women across Southeast Asia, is a symbol of the shared cultural heritage of the five nominating countries. This garment embodies traditions and cultural connections, with women from diverse communities, regardless of age, wearing the kebaya on various occasions to celebrate their identity and traditions.

Characterised by its distinctive design, the kebaya features a collar that extends from the back of the neck, flowing down to the hems on either side of the front. The front is typically secured with buttons, pins, or a kerongsang (brooch), and is paired with a lower garment known as a sarong (a stitched, tubular skirt), kain (a long piece of rectangular cloth wrapped and tucked around the waist) or long pants.
