Overview
Into the new Millennium
At the dawn of a new Millennium on 1 Jan 2000, a set of se-tenant strip of four stamps and a miniature sheet will be released to celebrate this very significant once-in-a life-time occasion. Entitled Singapore 2000, the stamps depict Information Technology, Arts and Culture, Heritage and Globalisation, capturing on stamps, Singapore's aspirations and progress in the new millennium. For the 20th Century Singapore stamps, the millennium logo appears on the gutter strip of all stamp sheets.
It is indeed a rare privilege to witness the changing of the centuries. And there couldn't be a more significant way to record this occasion than through postage stamps and pictorial postmarks of the above two millennium issues.
There will be not one but two cancellations for each of the millennium stamp issues. Collectors can look forward to collecting the datestamps to mark the turn of the millennium and see the magical string of zeroes for the first time on philatelic products. For the Singapore 2000 issue, each of the four stamps will incorporate a number printed in phosphorescent ink. The figure 2000 can be seen when all the four stamps are together in a se-tenant strip. In addition, the miniature sheet will incorporate the figure 2000 printed in prismatic silver. The effect is similar to silver foil printing.
Millennium Commemorative Pack
In addition to the first day covers and presentation packs, a special commemorative millennium pack will be issued encasing the two millennium pre-cancelled first day covers.
A special bookmark with an actual cancelled stamp from the two millennium issues will be given away with every purchase of the commemorative millennium pack. The bookmark is also sold at the post branches.
