Butterflies of Singapore and Sweden

Butterflies are possibly the best-loved insects. They are the most visible forms of wildlife seen along with birds. We are fascinated by their lifecycle, feeding habits and vibrant colours.

On 12 Aug 99, Singapore and Sweden will jointly issue a set of four stamps on Butterflies. Singapore will release a miniature sheet with the beautiful Butterflies stamps. The butterflies from Sweden are The Peacock (No-Value Indicator) and The Red Admiral ($2) and from Singapore are The Blue Pansy (70c) and The Great Egg-fly ($1).

These butterflies come alive on the stamps with the designs by Mrs Olof Baldursdottir and engraving by Mr Czeslaw Slania from Sweden. The stamps are printed in sheets of 10 by intaglio and offset lithography.

Collectors can look forward to a special commemorative cover incorporating the full set of stamps from Singapore and Sweden, cancelled with the respective countries' postmarks and printed with the signatures of designers, Mrs Olof Baldursdottir (Sweden) and Mr Melvin Ng (Singapore) as well as the renown European engraver, Mr Czeslaw Slania. A FREE collectors' card is given with every purchase of a commemorative cover. To complete the collection, there will also be first day covers and presentation packs for this issue.

Sweden's stamp products like first day covers, stamp booklets, collectors' sheets and maximum cards will be on sale during the joint stamp exhibition from 12 to 15 Aug 99.
