On World Post Day - 9 Oct 97, Singapore and Thailand will jointly release a set of four stamps on Shells. The four denominations for the Singapore stamps are : the No-Value Indicator, 35c, 60c and $1.

Shells are recurrent themes for stamps in many countries as they are beautiful works of nature. For this set of special joint issue stamps, two Singapore shells and two Thailand shells are depicted. The Singapore shells are the Nerita chamaeleon Linnaeus, 1758 and Littoraria melanostoma (Gray, 1839) and the Thailand shells are : Drupa morum Roding, 1798 and Cryptospira elegans (Gmelin, 1791). The shells come from various marine habitats and are adaptable to different environment. The stamps illustrate some of these adaptations of the shells and they are water-colour paintings by a 32 year old Thai artist, Mr Rong Saichumdee.

Released together with the stamps will be a miniature sheet and a special commemorative cover incorporating 4 stamps from Singapore and 4 stamps from Thailand cancelled with the respective country's postmarks and printed with the artist's and designer's signatures. In addition, there will be the usual first day covers and presentation packs.
