Singapore Youth Festival

Issue date 01 Jul 2016

Overview

Celebrating it's 50th year with the theme YOUTHforia!, the annual Singapore Youth Festival remains one of the most important and relevant platforms that celebrates the rich diversity of youth talent in our schools. The youth festival has evolved alongside Singapore’s development. Beginning in 1966 and formally launched on 18 July 1967 by the first President of Singapore, Mr Yusof Ishak, the purpose of the festival was to create a national identity and nurture the talents of our youth from different ethnic groups.

Today, the SYF continues to galvanise our youth to push new boundaries, form strong friendships and create enduring memories through their shared experiences on and off stage. SYF 2016 showcases students’ diverse talents with hundreds of engaging performances in the month of July. From contemporary to traditional music and from drama to contemporary dance and visual arts, Singapore Youth Festival 2016 taps into the pulse of the youth and allows them to share their passion for the arts with significant impact.
