The Animal series stamps were issued to commemorate the opening of the Singapore Zoological Gardens. The stamp issue released on the 16th Dec 1973 featured the Tiger and Orang Utan (5cents), the Cheetah and Thomson’s Gazelle (10cents), the Black Panther & Sambar Deer (35cents) and the Horse and Lion (75cents).

The first Art series stamps which featured the paintings of old Singapore were released on 5th December 1971. This old paintings featured on this stamp issue are - View from Fort Canning 1846, View from Singapore Waterfront in 1848 to 9, View from the sea the waterfront in 1861, View from Mount Wallich in 1857, Scene of The Padang in 1851 and Scene of Singapore River & Fort Canning in 1843-7.

This Contemporary Art Series features 4 paintings - "Moon Festival" by Mr Seah Kim Joo, "Complementary Force" by Mr Thomas Yeo, "Rhythms in Blue" by Enche Yusman and "Gibbons" by Mr Chen Wen Hsi.

The Shipping Series stamp issue was issued on 17 Decemeber 1972. The stamp issue featured the Neptune Ruby, Maria Rickmers and Chinese Junk. As Singapore has the reputation of being the 4th busiest port in the world with more than 171m (NRT) of ships sailing in and out of our port in any one year, the new Shipping series featuring ships from the old sailing ship which used to call at Singapore to a modern freighter built in Singapore depict the changing face of Singapore's history, as well.

The Scenic Series stamp featured local scenes in Singapore in the 1970s - Roadside Stall, Singapore River and the Kelong.

The first modern Olympic Games was held in Athens in 1896 and in 2004, the Games will return to their origins as Athens hosts the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad. With reference to the Ancient Olympics, some of Singapore's popular Olympic sports namely Athletics (1st Local), Swimming (30cts), Weightlifting ($1) and Sailing ($2), are graphically illustrated on pebbles in this commemorative set of stamps.

The Singapore River occupies an important place in the history of Singapore. Following the establishment of a British trading post on the island in 1819, Singapore’s free port status and strategic location attracted trade and people from the region and beyond. Visual records of Singapore in the 19th century often depict the river as the focal point of commercial activity and urban development. This stamp issue showcases some early artistic impressions of Singapore River, from the National Library Board’s (NLB) Rare Book Collection.

Singapore is home to more than 2,000 species of native and endemic plants. Despite losing more than 95% of our forests after colonisation, and rapid urbanisation and development since independence in the 1960s, our biodiversity remains resilient. In the last decade or so, over 500 species of plants and animals have been discovered and some thought to be extinct in Singapore were rediscovered by researchers. These species remain vulnerable to the impact of development and climate change. Thus, as part of efforts to transform Singapore into a City in Nature, the National Parks Board (NParks) has been expanding, restoring, and enhancing our natural capital. Singapore’s Nature Conservation Master Plan is a key component of these efforts, and one of its thrusts involve conservation of native species through habitat enhancement and species recovery.

Released to mark 150 years since the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles, these stamps traced Singapore's journey from its early days as a trading port to its independence. The stamp series, designed in a semi-abstract style, collectively shared a significant period in Singapore's history: the Founding of Singapore, the Japanese Occupation, Self-Governance, Singapore as a part of Malaysia, Independence, United Nations membership, and our achievements in Commerce, Industry and Communications.
