Singapore last hosted the World Stamp Exhibition in 1995 and the inaugural World Stamp Championship in 2004. Gathering the experiences of both exhibitions, the Association of Singapore Philatelists (ASP), with effort to commemorate Singapore's golden jubilee in 2015, managed to successfully bid for the hosting rights of another World Stamp Exhibition in 2015, with support of the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP - International Federation of Philately). With the theme "Stamps for all Ages", 4 sets of past issues, with designs from the "1955: Queen Elizabeth II Definitives", "1962 - 1966: Fishes, Orchids and Birds Definitives" (1st series), "1960: National Day" and "1970: Osaka Expo" are selected to revive the memories of collectors, as well as to showcase the developments that Singapore had achieved through the years.

The sheer scale, spectacle and spirit of the nationwide celebrations of Singapore's silver jubilee of independence in 1990 will no doubt be indelibly printed in the memories of many Singaporeans for years to come. To preserve these memories, a commemorative stamp issue entitled "25 Years of Independence" will be issued.

3 August 1492 remains a significant date in the history of mankind. For it was on that date that Christopher Columbus, reputedly the finest sailor of his time, set sail for the East Indies. Leading an entourage of some 90 men in three ships, Columbus sought to fulfil his dream of reaching the fabled lands of the East, renown for their jewels, spices, silver and gold. Unknown to Columbus, he discovered the New World on this historic expedition and three others which followed later.
