Overview
As a knowledge-based economy, Singapore's effectiveness in a competitive global economy hinges on talent and knowledge acquisition. Our workforce needs to be upgraded constantly so as to remain relevant and competitive. In July 2005, the National Library Board [NLB] unveiled its strategic direction for the next five years - Library 2010 [L2010] - to address the needs of Singaporeans in the new social and economic landscape. The goal of L2010 is to provide Singaporeans with a world-class library system that brings the world's knowledge to Singapore and make it available to all. The implementation of the L2010 plan aims to ensure that our published heritage is preserved, that knowledge remains readily accessible to all Singaporeans for their lifelong learning.
This set of stamps commemorates the new knowledge framework formed by the two main thrusts of L2010 "Libraries for Life, Knowledge for Success" and NLB's vision to be "an inspiring beacon of life-long learning, bringing knowledge alive, sparking imagination and creating possibility for a vibrant and creative Singapore".
