Currency Notes and Coins

Issue date 02 Oct 1992

Overview

Money is a subject all of us are familiar with. We use it, spend it, save it. Nobody ever questions the need for it. By themselves too, currency notes and coins are records of history, reflecting the culture and events of the country issuing them.

Singapore currency notes and coins were first issued in 1967 with the formation of the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore (BCCS). Prior to the setting up of the BCCS, Singapore shared a common currency with Malaysia and Brunei issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Malaya and British Borneo.

The stamp issue marks another milestone in Singapore's currency history. The first day cover and presentation pack are released together with a postal numismatic cover pack with the set of commemorative stamps with cancellation and a special piedfort coin (coin of double thickness) in 999 fine silver with spot gold plating on part of the design. The design of the coin depicts the new BCCS logo. This coin is the first of its kind ever issued in the world. The PNC issue will be sold by Singapore Mint through mail orders.

So, make sure you don't miss out on the stamp and PNC issues which mark another milestone in the currency history of Singapore.
