Greetings is part of our everyday life. Everyone greets whenever they meet a stranger or when expressing their friendliness. It is a gesture of good will, warm regards and wishes to one another. Even the deaf have their own forms of greetings for each other. In this stamp issue, we are featuring 5 different greetings in sign language that are commonly used among the deaf community in Singapore - Hi, Welcome, Thanks, Good Bye and I Love You.

Greetings with Sign Languages stamp issue aims to create greater awareness of the deaf community in our midst, and at the same time, allows everyone to learn how to communicate with the deaf community with simple greetings in sign languages. Sign language is an effective means of communication for the deaf. It helps us to bridge our communication with the deaf community, and allows us to start and build friendship with the deaf community. Learning and understanding sign language can be fun and interesting. We hope this stamp issue will bring good cheer to you as you learn the greetings in sign languages!

About Kenny Tiang:

Kenny is happily married, both him and his wife are deaf. They are parents to 3 lovely hearing children, one daughter and 2 sons, age 8 years old, 4 years old and 3 months old respectively. Kenny works as a Design Implementer at Interbrand. His work involves providing support to the design and strategy team in areas such as design, implementation, photography and IT-related matters. In his course of work, he had worked with clients across numerous industries and design disciplines, from packaging to corporate identity solutions. Kenny enjoys taking photographs of his family because he feels that his kids are growing up too quickly, and he wants to remember their every moment.

Kenny felt very honoured to have an opportunity to design this set of stamps on "Greetings". In his own words, Kenny mentioned, "This is my first time designing stamps and I feel very honoured. It is a rare opportunity to have my designs featured on the national stamp. Moreover, it's good to promote public awareness for the deaf on a national level."

This stamp issue will definitely promote greater public awareness of the deaf community and teach us to how to greet them with simple sign language.
