Overview
Singapore and Japan have always enjoyed strong and warm bilateral relations since its establishment. Over the years, both countries have built excellent relationship in areas such as trade and investment, culture, and between our peoples. As this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries. Singapore Post and Japan Post will jointly release this stamp issue with the theme entitled “Pottery”, to commemorate and to celebrate this significant milestone.
Featured in this joint stamp issue are the ceramic artworks by two renowned potters. They are; from Singapore – Mr Iskandar Jalil, and from Japan – Mr Toyozo Arakawa. Mr Iskandar Jalil is an established Singaporean ceramist. He was awarded the Cultural Medallion for Visual Arts in 1988. Mr Toyozo Arakawa was a well-known Japanese ceramic potter. He was given the title “Living National Treasure” in 1955. The denomination of each of these two stamps is $1.30.
