Singapore-Japan Joint Stamp Issue

Overview

Singapore and Japan enjoy excellent and multi-faceted relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966, Japan and Singapore have deepened and strengthen their co-operations not only in economic areas but also in political, cultural and other areas as well. This year 2006 marks the 40th anniversary of this strong partnership.

This joint issue between Singapore and Japan further enhances this close relationship between both countries as joint stamp issues strengthen cooperation and foster closer relationships of two postal administrations as they work together on the project.

It also deepens understanding of the country's culture as well as its flora and fauna.

The designs for this joint issue centred around the theme on "Flowers". In this set of six stamps, the beautiful orchids of Singapore - the Vanda Mimi Palmer (1st Local), Renanthera Singaporeans (1st Local), Vanda Miss Joaquim (70cts) and Mokara Lion's Gold (70cts) are featured together with two paintings from the Edo period (early 19th Century), one featuring Hollyhock and a white heron ($1) and the other on Iris and moorhens ($2) are depicted.
