In a urban concrete city like Singapore, birds are the most easily seen creatures of the wild. These feathered friends of ours are a part of our everyday lives. We see them on our way to work or school, in the parks, and almost always in sight when we are in the outdoors.

The joint stamp issue between Singapore and Malaysia, to be released on 27 June 2002, features birds of the two countries. Singapore is represented by the Asian Fairy Bluebird (40c) and Black-naped Oriole ($1) while Malaysia is represented by the Red-throated Sunbird (no-value indicator) and White-bellied Woodpecker ($2).

As with other joint stamp issues, we will produce a Commemorative Cover to mark the joint release of this set of four stamps on "Birds" by Singapore and Malaysia. Two matching sets of stamps and cancellations with the signature of the designer make this a special memento for the two countries' co-operation in this joint issue.
