Singapore and Switzerland are worlds apart and this is reflected in their flora. The humid tropical low-lands of Singapore support a flora mostly of woody plants, many of them majestic broadleaf trees, while the Swiss Alps, snow-covered during winter, is home to coniferous forests and on the peaks alpine meadows of low clumps of herbaceous plants.

Wherever they grow, flowers provide colour to our life and raise our spirits, whether in Singapore where they soften the stress of busy city life, or in Switzerland where they herald the end of severe winter weather.

To be issued on 20 September 2001, this set of stamps features flowers of the two countries, Singapore and Switzerland. The Edelweiss (No-Value Indicator) and Gentian (60c) are from Switzerland, while the Singapore Rhododendron ($1) and Saraca ($2) are from Singapore. These stamps, are designed by Nicodemus Loh, a Singapore designer.

A set of four special prints has been produced with these stamps.

A stamp exhibition cum Swiss fair will be held at Parco Bugis Junction, from 20 to 23 September 2001 (11am to 8pm). The event aims to create a mini-Switzerland through the showcasing of the Swiss tourism, culture, art and trade. You will find folklore music, Swiss products, William Tell crossbow shooting activity and more at the event.
