Overview
Singapore is proud to be the host for the 20th World Orchid Conference (WOC). The 20th WOC, "Where New and Old World Orchids Meet" will be held at Marina Bay.
Beautifully illustrated in this set of stamps are the wonderful Orchid selections of Singapore, "Where new and old world orchids meet" in an orchid extravaganza in 2011.
Vanda Miss Joaquim (1st Local)
Named after the originator, Miss Agnes Joaquim in 1893, Vanda Miss Joaquim is the first vanda hybrid to be registered. Based on its beauty, resilience and blooming quality, Vanda Miss Joaquim was chosen as the National Flower of Singapore on 15 April 1981.
Renanthera 20th WOC Singapore 2011 (45c)
This is the official flower of the 20th World Orchid Conference. The red blossoms signify prosperity, wealth and success.
Dendrobium World Peace (65c)
The well-shaped, good texture flowers of some 7cm across, come with white or creamy petals and sepals that are veined light purple.
Cyrtocidium Goldiana (80c)
This flower is widely known as 'Golden Shower' in Singapore. The elegant yellow flower is also popularly known as the "Dancing Ladies".
Grammatophyllum speciosum ($2)
This is the largest orchid in the world. Also known as the Tiger Orchid because markings on the flowers resemble that of the skin of a tiger.
