Overview

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok by the five original Member Countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined on 8 January 1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999.

To commemorate it's 40th Anniversary, members of ASEAN had agreed to adopt Ancient or Modern Architectural Structures as the theme of the ASEAN Joint Stamp issue, with each member issuing the same set of ten designs on the same Anniversary date.

The National Museum of Singapore is the architectural structure chosen to be depicted for Singapore.

In conjunction with this significant event, Bangkok 2007 [ a philatelic exhibition ] is to be the venue for the actual launch of this set of stamps.
