The colours of nature

Flowers are the colours of nature painted everywhere to beautify our environment. It softens Singapore's urban landscape and transforms her into a Garden City.

This set of stamps features eight of these common flowers, so often unnoticed by us, namely; Canna (Canna hybrid), Peacock Flower (Caesalpinia pulcherrima), Wedelia (Wedelia trilobata), Yellow Simpoh (Dillenia suffruticosa), Zephyr Lily (Zephyranthes rosea), Seven Golden Candlesticks (Cassia alata), Crab's Claw (Heliconia rostrata) and Yellow Allamanda (Allamanda cathartica). All were introduced long ago from tropical America, except Yellow Simpoh which is a native flower.

A miniature sheet, which shows the leaves and fruits of the flowers, and a stamp booklet will be released together with this set of stamps.

A very special feature of this set of stamps is that it exudes flowery scents. But the fragrance will not last forever. So make sure you pick up a bunch of these flowers and send it to your friends and loved ones while they are fresh!

Collectors may also wish to know that for this issue, there will be four NVI stamps, two 35c stamps and two 60c stamps, all depicting different flowers, a total of 8 flowers in all. The four NVI stamps will come complete in a sheet of 20 stamps with the flowers arranged in different sequential order. The four stamps of 35c and 60c denominations appear in another complete sheet of 20 stamps with the flowers again similarly arranged. See pictures on the facing page.

The stamps would be available in the usual first day covers and presentation packs, as well as in the Care-for-Nature (CFN) covers and exclusive limited print collection. The CFN products can be purchased at all HongkongBank branches and at SingPost branches from 9 Sep 98 to 20 Nov 98. The limited stamp prints will be on sale at the Singapore Philatelic Bureau at Killiney Road and at 11 HongkongBank branches. Proceeds from the sale of the stamps are donated to the CFN Trust Fund, which provides funding in support of meaningful environmental conservation and education projects.
