Overview
The art of sculpture has always proved to be a challenge in the arts arena, with sculptors needing ample space to work in and to store finished pieces. However, despite the challenges, Ms Han Sai Por, Mr Tay Chee Toh, Mr Teo Eng Seng, Mr Wee Beng Chong, the late Mr Anthony Poon, the late Brother McNally, and the late Dr Ng Eng Teng persevere in the art of sculpture and the art form is still very much alive and flourishing in Singapore today. They, along with many others, have demonstrated that they have the potential to create monumental pieces that are in tune with the technological age.
This year in our National Day stamp issue on Sculptures, we feature the following works, "We're Happy. Are You Happy?" by Mr Teo Eng Seng, "Crimson Eagle" by the late Mr Anthony Poon, "Art Trees" by Ms Han Sai Por, "Standing Figure" by Mr Wee Beng Chong, "Wealth" by the late Dr Ng Eng Teng, "Signature" by the late Brother McNally and "Nude 2" by Mr Tay Chee Toh.
As this year's National Day falls on a Sunday, the sales of the First Day Covers will be extended to 11 Aug 2009 (Tuesday). From 09 to 10 Aug 2009, the National Day - Sculptures First Day Covers will only be available at the following Post Offices, namely, Jurong Point, Killiney, Singapore Post Centre and Changi Airport, both Departure and Transit Post Offices.
