Public Housing

Issue date 09 Aug 1985

Overview

In commemorating the achievements of the Housing and Development Board over the past 25 years, this 22K Gold Stamp First Day Cover depicts one of the basic tenets of the HDB providing people with homes they can call their own. The HDB introduced the home-ownership scheme in 1964, just four years after its foundation. About 70% of residents in HDB estates now own their own apartments. This is made possible through the use of Central Provident Fund savings and low-interest HDB loans with monthly repayments.

Looking ahead, it is expected that all HDB residents will be owners of their own homes by the turn of the century.
