Total Defence is a national defence strategy adopted by Singapore in 1984. It is a call for the defence of a nation with the active participation of every citizen. This stamp series introduced the five pillars of Total Defence – military, civil, economic, social, and psychological defence. The stamps emphasised that every citizen had a role to play in safeguarding the nation, and that security was a shared responsibility.
