Singapore achieved self-govermment on 3 June 1959. Over the years she has made extensive progress and developed into a nation that is one of the communication and financial centres in the world. Now 25 years later we celebrate Singapore's quarter century of nation building with an issue of six stamps each of which depicts a stamp within a stamp and all highlighting the representative areas of development in the island-republic.

Common to all the six stamps is a stylised design of the state lion with the administrative centre in the background. This was the basic design on the stamps issued in 1950 to commemorate the then new Singapore.
