Overview
The World Trade Organisation (WTO) was established on 1 Jan 95 as the premier organisation for international multilateral free trade matters. It is a watchdog on international trade and the forum for international trade negotiations.
The WTO is headed by the Ministerial Conference (MC) comprising Trade Ministers from all member countries.
This is an important event for Singapore as she would host the inaugural MC from 9 to 13 Dec 96. It signifies Singapore's commitment and support for multilateral free trade.
Four special stamps were released to mark the inaugural MC. Presented in a unique diamond shape, the designs incorporate the elements of the Globe, the Sky and the Sun Rays to convey the visions, goals and aspirations of WTO and its members.
