On 9 Oct 96, World Post Day, a set of stamps will be jointly released by Singapore and China, featuring the scenery of Singapore and Suzhou. Singapore will also release a miniature sheet of the two stamps.

The two stamps depicted in this issue appropriately highlight the scenes of Singapore and Suzhou. Illustrated by Chinese artist, Jiang Zhi Nan of The Central Academy of Arts and Design, the stamps feature a city scene of Singapore and the historical Panmen area in Suzhou. The Singapore scene depicts a montage of Singapore's skyline, its waterfront and landmarks such as the Fullerton building, the Anderson bridge and the Merlion. The China scene depicts Suzhou's Panmen area. The two stamps in this issue are a refreshing change to our look of Singapore-designed postage stamps. The drawings are done in a style characteristic of Chinese stamps.

In addition to the normal first day covers and packs, Singapore Post will also release a special commemorative cover containing the stamps issued by Singapore and China. Cancelled with the respective countries' postmarks, this cover is specially printed with the artist's and designer's signatures. In conjunction with this joint stamp issue, two exhibitions will be held concurrently, one in Singapore and one in Suzhou, China.

The Joint Singapore/China stamp exhibition will be held from 9 to 13 Oct 96 at Takashimaya Square, Singapore and China will take up sales booth along with a handful of dealers. In addition, there will be a total of 120 frames of exhibits on Chinese stamps. To commemorate the exhibition, the organisers will release the miniature sheet for the joint stamp issue overprinted with the words "Singapore/China Joint Stamp Exhibition". This overprinted sheet will be sold together with the overprinted Panda miniature sheet with serialised numbers issued by China.
