ASEAN Trade Fair '80

Overview

A set of three stamps in the values of 10C, 35C and 75C will be issued on 3 October 1980 to mark the staging of the ASEAN TRADE FAIR '80, at the World Trade Centre from 3 to 12 October 1980. This is the first time Singapore will be hosting the ASEAN Trade Fair. The ASEAN Trade Fair is a biennial series of trade fairs held in rotation in each ASEAN country. This year's ASEAN Trade Fair will be the second one in the series.

The central theme for this 10-day Fair is "Progress through ASEAN Unity". The objective of the Fair is to promote intra-ASEAN trade as well as to promote the international trade of the member countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

The Fair will take up a total exhibition space of 8,000 square metres at the World Trade Centre. It will be an auspicious event since it will display under one roof the wide range of products and services of over 280 ASEAN-based establishments. Products on display will include consumer goods, machinery and engineering equip-ment and parts as well as traditional agricultural and handicraft products. Visitors to the Fair will be able to see the increasing number of industrial goods on display reflecting the growing regional industrialisation.

The Fair will be yet another ASEAN project to highlight ASEAN co-operation.
