Historical Buildings

Issue date 04 Nov 1998

Overview

The urban landscape of Singapore is changing rapidly. However, many historical buildings are spared the wrecker's ball and preserved as Singapore's treasured landmarks.

To be released on 4 Nov 98 is a set of four stamps featuring four historic buildings which were built in the 19th and early 20th Century. The four buildings are: The Parliament House (NVI), the Former CHIJ Chapel (70c), Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall ($1) and the Hill Street Building ($2).

These stamps are reminders that these historical landmarks have a significance that goes beyond brick and mortar. They each offer an intimate slice of Singapore's social history and should be preserved for future generations.
