Overview

A new civic landmark

The new Parliament House will be ready by the end of 1999. The building is located in the heart of the Civic District. Standing on 2.2 hectares of land adjacent to the former House, it comprises three interconnecting blocks. In addition to the Parliament Chamber, Members' Library and Secretariat, the complex will have an Educational Gallery and an Auditorium. The new building will be a centre of activity among Members of Parliament, a place of interest for visitors and a landmark of Singapore.

A set of four stamps is issued to commemorate the new Parliament House. The set of four stamps features the new Parliament House from different perspectives: North view (No Value indicator); North-east view (60c), South-east view ($1) and West view ($2).

For the first time, a special Optical Variable Ink is used to print the Lion head, giving it a red and green reflection, under naked eyes.
