The Dendrobium Sharifah Fatimah and Phalaenopsis Shim Beauty were chosen to grace the stamps of this stamp issue, the second in a series of five issues to be released in conjunction with Singapore '95 - the first World Stamp Exhibition to be held in Singapore in 1995.

Singapore's close association with orchids began more than a century ago, when the first orchids exchange programme between Singapore and other countries was recorded in 1875. Today, orchid growing and export have flourished into a multi-million dollar industry.

The stamps are released as part of the Singapore '95 Orchids Series. The miniature sheet continues the Series' visual approach of projecting Singapore not just as a producer of quality orchids, but also as an exotic tropical island and garden city. The background illustration depicts Singapore's rapid transformation into a modern sophisticated city-state. The foreground illustration of colourful flora and fauna provide a perspective of the Garden City image and of our exotic tropical island in the sun. The miniature sheet bears the Singapore '95 exhibition logo.

For the first day covers, presentation packs and posters, Chua Ban Har chooses the striking yellow of the Dendrobium Sharifah Fatimah as the background colour. The design on the first day cover gives a hint of the fine veins of a leaf, a concept that will be followed through for the covers of the series. The nature theme is further highlighted on the presentation pack and poster designs with close-up pictures of beautiful orchids against the greenery of leaves. The datestamp design is a graphic representation of the Phalaenopsis Shim Beauty.
