The fifth issue of the Singapore '95 Orchids Series will be released on 15 Mar 95. The stamps and miniature sheets in this series are released in conjunction with Singapore '95 - the first World Stamp Exhibition to be held in Singapore in 1995. Proceeds from the sales of this series will be used to fund the mega-event that can be compared to the Olympics of the stamp collecting world.

The idea of a museum in Singapore was conceived in 1823 by Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore. In the same year, the Raffles Library and Museum was established and housed in the Singapore Institution (later known as Raffles Institution) at the site where Raffles City now stands. The Library was fully operational but the Museum was still to be formed.

On 1 Jul 99, Singapore and Hong Kong will jointly release a set of six stamps on Tourism. The stamps feature three scenes of Singapore and Hong Kong, respectively.

Art on stamps. This is the theme for the stamp issue that proudly presents a set of four stamps on contemporary paintings by four talented local artists. This beaded cover was used to decorate a table known as the choon tok, in the wedding chamber, where a Peranakan bride and groom partake in their first meal together. It is made up of over a million small glass beads, some faceted. A variety of birds, insects, and flowers native to Asia, Europe, and South America are set against a turquoise ground, a popular shade in Peranakan needlework from Penang. Roses are also common because of their resemblance to peonies, a traditional symbol of wealth, honour, and love.

The much talked about Singapore Philatelic Museum will be officially opened on 19 Aug 95. Visitors will see for the first time a large and valuable collection of postage stamps and philatelic archival materials, which up to now, were stored in stamp vaults away from public view.
